Tides Renewal was the result of an extensive interior fit-up of 4 floors in the restored and historically significant Flack Block — a landmark at the corner opposite Victory Square. The Flack Block was chosen to contribute to the revitalization of the downtown eastside in Vancouver, British Columbia. Makeway (formerly Tides Canada), Renewal and associated organizations have as their mission to foster enterprises affecting positive social and environmental change. The Makeway Foundation and Makeway Charitable Society build partnerships and solutions that help nature and communities thrive. Their partnerships with community leaders, philanthropists, foundations, and governments have provided momentum and helped amplify impact.
P+A INTERIORS has continued to work with Makeway renovating their Vancouver offices in 2012 and 2018 in response to changing needs. P+A INTERIORS also worked on the fit-up of Makeway's Toronto office in 2019 and 2020.
The interior design contrasts the heritage character of the building with the clean, minimalist glazed office fronts. This transparent plane retains an internal connection to the exposed brick perimeter walls and brings daylight into the central open areas.
The colour scheme employs a neutral palette featuring the natural colours of brick, Douglas Fir, aluminum and stainless steel. It is balanced by warm white walls to maximize the reflection of daylight, and grounded by a charcoal carpet tile. A different spectral hue is used as accent on each floor, giving a distinctive character, symbolizing change and hope.
