Through our interior design work with local retailers and grocers in the Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, such as City Avenue Market* and Greens Organic + Natural Market, we understand the complexity and high level of coordination required between the Project Team, Client, the Food and Beverage Equipment Suppliers, and the Authority Having Jurisdiction, including food safety.
The Vancouver grocer features organic produce, a café, deli and a butchery with a whole animal program, in which the animals are locally-sourced and sustainably-raised. With the focus of the store on natural, organic and healthy goods, it was essential that the fit-up of the 7,020 SF (652 SM) demonstrate sustainability. The colour scheme, featuring analogous accents of gold through orange-red and contrasted with a complementary accent of green, evokes a connection with baked goods, spices and fresh herbs and vegetables. A challenge at this location was making it work for one tenant requiring a large open area, in a space originally designed for several smaller tenants. The final layout worked with the restrictive structural grid, and the re-sloping of the concrete slab deals with changes of grade.
The Port Coquitlam store is the flagship for City Avenue Market*, a local grocer with several locations. P+A INTERIORS was Prime Consultant and Interior Designer, overseeing an extensive Project Team in the fit-up of the 7,330 SF (681 SM) store with a deli and small eating area. Ion Brand Design and P+A INTERIORS took the Clients through re-branding with a new logo, messaging and a fresh/vibrant colour palette applied to the interiors and storefront. Forms, materials, colours, lighting, signage and wayfinding were seamlessly integrated to create a relatable human scale and an enriched shopping experience.
P+A INTERIORS was also the Interior Designer for City Avenue at River Market* in New Westminister. The 7,560 SF (702 SM) River Market store celebrates connecting people with food in local and sustainable ways. Illuminated panels across the back bulkhead connect food to the land it comes from, with images of farmland, seen as abstract patterns in close-up aerial views.
